ENFIELD TOWN LIBRARY

Potter Raper Partnership would like to congratulate the London Borough of Enfield on the Enfield Town Library for achieving the "Runner Up 2011 Civic Building of the Year" at the recent Society of Chief Architects of Local Authorities awards (SCALA - www.scala.org.uk) for which the building was recognised as an "exemplary piece of public architecture".

6 AGAR STREET

Potter Raper Partnership have been commissioned to act as Project Managers, Contract Administrators and CDM Co-ordinators for 6 Agar Street. The project involves the demolition of the 5th floor plant area, creating a new 5th floor office space and infill to part of the existing courtyard/lightwell to create additional office space.

The project has just submitted its BREEAM pre assessment to the BRE and is on target to obtain a BREEAM "excellent" rating.

The scheme also sits right on the edge of Covent Garden, which surprisingly has a large homeless population. Last year (and again this year) the project team arranged for a collection (both internally and from surrounding premises) for the creation of Christmas 'goodie bags' that were distributed via the local church. As part of our project team's overall Corporate Social Responsibility we are also looking at good causes in the area and volunteering to assist in painting local classrooms/halls.

MUSEUM OF LONDON

We are working with the Museum of London (MOL) to provide 3D drawings of their building and the local built environment to enable feasibility proposals for a new £15M extension to be developed. We have been using the latest laser scanning technology to produce point clouds (which consist of millions of accurately measured points) which are used as a basis for extremely accurate drawings of the MOL Building and the surrounding buildings, which would be virtually impossible to produce by any other means. We have, through the use of this technology and the provision of an active 3D 'fly through', already attracted funding for a new atrium as part of the conversion of an external space for offices.

OXLEAS NHS TRUST

Potter Raper Partnership have recently completed the £2.1M security project for Oxleas NHS Trust (Bracton Campus Security). We designed and managed the construction of a new reception building incorporating state of the art security access systems and 1km of 5.2m high security fencing. This has provided a focal point for their secure unit and has been very well received by their Chief Executive, their management board and perhaps most importantly the staff that use it. A big well done to everyone involved, a great job of which we can all be proud.

BUILDING INFORMATION MODELLING (BIM)

Our AutoCAD department, based at our Beckenham Office, has successfully implemented Building Information Modelling (BIM) for all drawing work. Our Clients are already seeing the benefits of this approach in time and cost savings on their projects by eliminating design uncertainties and conflicts. All project work is now drawn in 3D with the ability to view the model from any angle and to generate cross-sections and elevations and data, at the touch of a button.

BIM is the first system that effectively combines drawn and technical data in a useable form, enabling the generation of data for managing repairs, maintenance and facilities (from the model) during the building's life cycle.

Paul Morrell, the Government´s Chief Construction Advisor, has confirmed that the use of BIM will be mandatory on all government projects in the next five years (by 2016), so this will become an essential tool.

Full details about this service will be available on our Website soon.
